Providing access to intervention support for rural children with cerebral palsy

Statistics from well-resourced settings suggest that between 2-3 babies per 1000 live births will have Cerebal Palsy. Because of inadequate obstetrical and neonatal care, particularly in rural poor areas in South Africa, the number is likely to be higher. Malamulele Onward, through its intensive therapeutic approach is starting to have some effect in reaching and assisting young people in need, in previously underserved rural areas. There approach, although only short-term, is demonstrating that rural children’s conditions can be improved significantly when certain conditions are put into place.
